Top US general visits Israel amid Iran threat fears: Pentagon



WASHINGTON: The high US commander for the Center East is in Israel for talks on safety threats with the nation’s navy officers, the Pentagon stated Thursday.
The go to comes amid fears that Iran will retaliate after an Israeli strike that killed seven members of Tehran’s elite Revolutionary Guards, together with two generals, in Syria earlier this month.
Common Erik Kurilla is in Israel “to satisfy with key IDF management…(and) focus on the present safety threats within the area,” Pentagon spokesman Main Common Pat Ryder informed journalists.
Ryder stated the journey was moved up from a beforehand scheduled date “as a result of current developments.”
Iran’s supreme chief, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned Wednesday that Israel “have to be punished and shall be punished,” whereas US President Joe Biden pledged “ironclad” assist for its high regional ally.
US Protection Secretary Lloyd Austin in the meantime spoke Thursday together with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant, who informed the Pentagon chief {that a} “direct Iranian assault would require an acceptable Israeli response towards Iran.”
