WARSAW: Polish farmers have determined to droop a protest on the border crossing with Ukraine at Medyka after the government agreed to their calls for, interia.pl web site reported on Saturday citing the native province governor.
Polish truck drivers have been blocking a number of crossings with Ukraine since Nov. 6, demanding that the European Union reinstate a system whereby Ukrainian firms acquire permits to function within the bloc.
They have been later joined by farmers who demanded authorities subsidies for corn and no tax hikes, amid complaints about elevated competitors from Ukraine.
The farmers, who have been blocking the crossing at Medyka, suspended their protest for Christmas and resumed the blockade on Jan. 4. On Saturday, they agreed to droop it once more.
The Minister of Agriculture agreed to implement all three of their calls for relating to subsidies, elevated loans for liquidity and sustaining the agricultural tax on the 2023 degree, interia.pl mentioned.
“Upon signing the settlement, the protest on the border crossing in Medyka is suspended for the interval essential to implement authorized … modifications and for the time essential to implement further modifications,” the settlement quoted by the web site reads.
Nonetheless, truckers are persevering with their protests at three different border crossings.
