US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has mentioned that if a ceasefire plan backed by the US and UN doesn’t progress, Hamas will probably be accountable.
Mr Blinken reiterated his name for Hamas to just accept the plan as outlined by President Biden 11 days in the past.
He mentioned the onus was on “one man” hiding “ten storeys underground in Gaza” to make the casting vote, referring to Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar.
Mr Blinken mentioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had “reaffirmed his dedication” to the proposal after they held talks in Jerusalem on Monday.
Mr Netanyahu has not publicly endorsed what Mr Biden outlined nor mentioned whether or not it matches an Israeli proposal on which Mr Biden’s assertion was based mostly.
Mr Blinken described as a “hopeful signal” Hamas’s response to a decision handed by the UN Safety Council on Monday supporting what Mr Biden had introduced.
The decision famous that Israel had accepted what Mr Biden had offered and referred to as on Hamas to take action as effectively.
Hamas issued an announcement on Tuesday welcoming “what was included” within the decision.
However Mr Blinken mentioned Hamas’s response was not conclusive, including that that “what counts” is what is alleged by the Hamas management in Gaza, “and that is what we do not have”.
