Australia, Canada suspend UN agency funding after Israeli allegations



OTTAWA: Australia and Canada have suspended their funding to the UN company for Palestinian refugees, after Israel accused a number of staff of involvement in Hamas’s October 7 assault.
Australian Overseas Minister Penny Wong stated on Saturday she was “deeply involved” by the allegations in opposition to the company, UNRWA.
“We’re talking with companions and can quickly pause disbursement of current funding,” she wrote on social media platform X.
“We welcome UNRWA’s quick response, together with terminating contracts and launching an investigation, in addition to its current announcement of a full investigation into allegations in opposition to the group,” she added.
